About
Our Chapter
Our chapter, which has members throughout
Middle Tennessee, was named a Chapter of Excellence in both
2002 and 2003 and was awarded additional honors as Chapter
of Distinction (the STC's highest award for chapters) in our
size category.
We currently have two members serving the parent organization.
Beth Tanner, one of the chapter's founding members and president
of Tanner Corporate Services, is Director-Sponsor for Region
3 and serves on the STC Board of Directors. Rita Johnson, our
chapter president for 2001-2002 and 2002-2003, serves on the
STC Nominating Committee - the body that identifies potential
candidates for Society offices.
We meet monthly from September through May, offering programs
with guest speakers, local speakers, and networking opportunities.
We welcome visitors!
Check our calendar
for coming events. For insight into the kinds of topics we've
covered in previous meetings, visit out meeting
notes section.
Chapter members receive a subscription to our
newsletter, Communique. An archive
of five years of newsletters is available
online in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. We sponsor an annual technical publications
competition, and network with local businesses to identify job opportunities for technical communicators.
Our bylaws reflect the guidelines set forth
for all STC chapters. You can read them in either Microsoft
Word or Adobe PDF format.
Our members come from
many area businesses, from contracting agencies, and from their
own firms. Among them are technical writers and editors,
graphic designers and artists,
Web developers, multimedia developers, and a host of other communication
professions.
Worldwide, the Society for Technical Communication
has more than 18,000 members. STC member benefits include a
subscription to the Society's magazine, Intercom,
and a subscription to the Journal of the Society
for Technical Communication. Published ten times
a year, Intercom provides practical
examples and applications of technical communication. The Journal is
published quarterly and includes articles on current trends
and research in the field of Communications.
Each year, STC sponsors an international
conference. Our chapter hosted the 2002 conference, which was
held at Opryland Hotel.
