As belts are being cinched and budgets trimmed around the country,
we are calling on a few experts to walk us through opportunities
to use our skill set to promote the STC and the Middle Tennessee
Chapter.
The STC strategic plan contains the following bullets:
- Define the profession of technical communication
- Communicate the value of technical communication and STC
- Establish and expand strategic partnerships
- Globally improve the practice of technical communication
- Ensure the long-term viability of the organization
For the next few months your local chapter is going to be focusing
on the first three, with the objective of positively influencing
the last two.
Job Seeker Program
ProEdit, Inc., is pleased to announce that the Society for Technical
Communication (STC) has developed a Job Seeker Boot
Camp for technical writers, editors, software documentation
specialists, and others in the technical communication field.
You do not need to be a member to participate. The program includes
four elements to help the effectiveness of your job search:
FREE access to the STC Career Center where scores of
NEW job postings specific to technical communicators
are listed and shown to participants EXCLUSIVELY FOR
14 DAYS before they are released to the public. STC
recently partnered with us and other top recruiters in the tech
comm field to compile the best job openings in its online Career
Center .
FREE access to a dozen-plus articles written by and for technical
communicators about how to distinguish yourself, how to identify
hidden job markets, what questions to expect during the interview,
and how to increase your perceived value to your next employer.
The work of technical communicators is an important contribution
to a company’s bottom line. Learn what to emphasize
when describing the value of your accomplishments.
FREE access to audio podcasts by well-known tech comm speakers.
John Hedtke and Jack Molisani speak on topics such as: mistakes
technical communicators make during job searches, résumé
tips, creating buzz about yourself during your search, and how
to ace the interview.
FREE access to the latest STC Salary Survey to help you establish
your value during negotiations. The survey also shows how technical
writers have shifted from state to state or metropolitan areas,
where salaries are holding firm, and where the largest increases
in salaries have occurred. Learn what the average, median, and
90th percentile salaries are for technical writers in your area.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
Members of STC can participate for free.
Nonmembers may participate in the program for $65; this includes
unlimited access until 31 December. Purchase
